SOLEMNITY OF MARY
JANUARY 1, 2021
GATHERING SONG
HAIL, HOLY QUEEN

1.
Hail, holy Queen
enthroned above,
O Maria.
Hail, Queen of mercy
and of love,
O Maria.

Triumph, all ye cherubim,
Sing with us, ye seraphim,
Heaven and earth
resound the hymn:
Salve, salve, salve Regina!

CONFITEOR
GLORIA

I confess to almighty God
and to you,
my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts
and in my words,
in what I have done and
in what I have failed to do,

[Pray while striking
the breast three times.]
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask
blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you,
my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me
to the Lord our God.

FIRST READING:
NUMBERS 6:22-27

The Lord said to Moses:

“Speak to Aaron and his sons
and tell them: This is how
you shall bless the Israelites.
Say to them:

The Lord bless you and keep you!

The LORD let his face
shine upon you,
and be gracious to you!

The Lord look upon you
kindly and give you peace!

So shall they invoke
my name upon the Israelites,
and I will bless them.”

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:

REFRAIN

May God bless us in his mercy,

may God bless us in his mercy.

SECOND READING
GALATIANS 4:4-7

Brothers and sisters:

When the fullness of time had come,
God sent his Son,
born of a woman,
born under the law,

to ransom those under the law,
so that we might receive
adoption as sons.

As proof that you are sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son
into our hearts,
crying out, “Abba, Father!”

So you are no longer a slave
but a son, and if a son then also
an heir, through God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
STORRINGTON MASS
GOSPEL:
LUKE 2:16-21

REFRAIN

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! (2x)

VERSE

In the past God spoke
to our ancestors through the prophets;
in these last days,
he has spoken to us through the Son.

REFRAIN

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! (2x)

The shepherds went in haste
to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.

When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.

All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.

And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.

Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.

When eight days were completed
for his circumcision, he was named Jesus,
the name given him by the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.

COMMUNION SONG:
LO, HOW A ROSE
'ERE BLOOMING

1.
Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming,
As men of old have sung.
It came, a flow’ret bright,
Amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.

2.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it,
The Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it,
The virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright,
She bore to men a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

3.

This Flow’r, whose fragrance tender
With sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor
The darkness everywhere.
True man, yet very God,
From sin and death He saves us,
And lightens every load.

RECESSIONAL HYMN:
ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID'S CITY

Once in royal David's city
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her Baby
In a manger for His bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little Child.
